When discussing the shipping of electronics/televisions/appliances, the term original packaging is often used. However, the packaging that comes when purchased from a store is different than when purchased online.
Here is a coffee maker in its box. It is how the packaging looks when purchased in a brick and mortar store. The cardboard is thin and does not take travel punishment very well. Pretty much a guarantee of damage during transit.
Here is the packaging when purchased online. Notice how thick the cardboard is. This is much more durable and will protect the coffee maker much better.
The coffee maker fits in snuggly and tight.
This is the only way that electronics stand a chance of surviving UPS traveling. Pretty much nobody saves this packaging and even mover packed electronics will not be able to duplicate the sturdiness of a box manufactured specifically for this item.
This is why waivers of liability are always required for shipping these items as we are not responsible for any damages or loss due to insufficient packaging.
